Building a Better Future: Plastic-Free July Through Eco-Friendly Materials & Initiatives
The topic of sustainability and building an eco-friendly future has risen in popularity over the last few years. It is something that we can’t ignore. The average annual energy bill in the UK is spiralling to more than £4,200 and 40% of CO2 emissions come from individuals at home.
If we don’t do anything about saving our planet, our energy bills and CO2 consumption will only get worse.
That’s why here at T&K Home Improvements, we are committed to sustainability in the way we work. We are striving towards an ethical, environmentally friendly future for the whole industry. We are strong promoters of our sustainable materials and initiatives and we want to make sure that we are still providing our more than 60,000 satisfied customers with excellent products and services in a sustainable and eco-friendly way.

Our Sustainable Materials
At T&K, we work alongside a number of other companies who share our environmental concerns. Our partners have helped us devise an efficient recycling programme for our uPVC profiles, our Closed Loop Recycling Process.
When your uPVC profiles reach the end of their usable lives, they get shredded and then compressed into pellets. These pellets can then be used again, and extruded into uPVC once more. This process can be repeated up to ten times meaning the materials in your single window or door frame could see over three centuries of practical use.
Therefore, by choosing T&K, you can be a part of a process that has been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible. We also always use our low-emission vehicles and shortest routes to reduce drive time.
Not only do we use recyclable uPVC, but we also offer Epwin Window Systems which are Vinyl Plus Verified. Epwin have been recognised for their outstanding performance and sustainable development in the PVC building and construction industry. Their approach to their environmental initiatives is from the perspective of the whole lifecycle, something which we also focus on here at T&K. As one of the first system houses to get an ethical accreditation, we are proud to offer these window systems to our amazing customers in Northamptonshire.

Our Sustainable Initiatives
At T&K, we are doing everything we can to improve our own carbon footprint and pave the way for a greener future. That’s why we have recently made a million-pound investment in our fleet vehicles. Our new fuel-efficient Volvo RM Rigid trucks are a sizable statement to our better way of working. We currently have four trucks with five on the way and these eighteen-tonne vehicles meet the Euro 6 emission standards. This combined with their aerodynamic design, improves our vehicles’ fuel efficiency by more than 50%.
Not only are we improving our vehicles, but we are also recycling 99% of our general waste from our factories and offices. We have also set a target of reducing cardboard packaging and plastic use by 30%, further reducing our on-site waste.
We are also making small changes of manual flushing facilities, low-energy handryers and are aiming to switch all energy output in our factory, office and warehouse lighting to LED. These small changes are leading to a bigger impact, something that you could do too.
Our eco-friendly practices are now becoming increasingly important, especially as we have now got over 100 solar panels installed on our factory roof. Under the solar paneled roof, we have developed our Closed Loop Recycling Process. We are working alongside a number of leading manufacturers to develop the process of taking recycled materials to manufacture them into a product of the same type. One of our partners, Emplas, is a leading figure of this process so you can be rest assured that the process is as eco-friendly and efficient as possible when you choose us.
Here at T&K, we are doing all we can to become a leader in the sustainable development of the home improvement industry, so when you choose us, you know you are making a green choice too.
Not only are we committed to building a better future, but we are also big promoters of double glazing across homes in the UK. Double glazing has been described as the ‘unsung hero’ in the fight against climate change at the World Economic Forum. By choosing double or triple glazing with us, you can help your home become more energy efficient and help the environment.
