What are multi-point locks?

Multi-point locking systems work by bolting the door into the frame and securing it in place at multiple points, via the turn of a key. By securing the door at multiple points, would-be intruders find it much more difficult to find an area of weakness that they can apply pressure to and force the door open.

Locking Cylinders

What are lock cylinders?

Lock cylinders are a form of pin tumbler lock. These use pins of varying lengths to stop the lock from opening without the correct key. Burglars regularly target locking cylinders and employ a method known as ‘lock snapping’ in order to force entry into the home. Therefore, an anti-pick/snap cylinder provides an effective layer of defence for properties.

What is a mortice deadlock?

This is the most common type of lock that is placed within a doorframe. A mortice deadlock is a straightforward locking system that inserts a bolt into the frame when operated with a key. It is often a requirement with home insurance companies, and you might also hear it being referred to as a ‘Chubb lock’. 5 level locks are the securest form of mortice deadlock and these meet BS 3621 standards for security.

What is a night latch?

Often paired with a mortice deadlock, night latches secure the door behind you when closed, allowing you to leave without a key. They are also known as ‘Yale locks’ and you can secure them inside using a snib button.

What is anti-lift technology?

In the past, lifting patio doors off their tracks has been one of the methods employed by intruders to force entry into a property. However, the bifold and patio doors of today now feature anti-lift or ‘anti-jacking’ technology. This technology takes the form of a security strip which prevents outside removal of the doors.

Internal glazing beads are another method for securing bifold and patio doors and these also make it extremely difficult to remove the glass externally.
