T&K and Emplas Key Dates and Events.
Kevin Johnson and his then business associate, Tony Foster, commenced working from Tony’s garage and spare first floor bedroom. They made double glazed units to go into aluminium frames that they sold and installed. Their supplier of aluminium windows and doors went bust a few months later so they bought their stock and machinery, employed a fabricator and commenced manufacturing their own windows.
They moved from the garage and first floor bedroom into a small industrial unit in Alexandra Road, Wellingborough, before relocating again to Burton Latimer before the end of the year.
Windows & Doors
They purchased their first freehold factory in Allen Road, Finedon where they began to fabricate the innovative ‘new’ product, internally beaded PVC-u windows and doors.
Terry Baker joined the business as a sales representative and still works for T&K today – you can see his photograph in our ‘ meet the team ‘ section.
The then industry Minister, Lord Tebbitt, declared Park Farm an enterprise zone and T&K built our factory at Brunel Close, moving in on the 12th March 1984.
Kevin quickly identified a demand for the supply of their products to the trade and so Emplas was born and became one the original major trade suppliers in the UK.
